Rachel Madden, DMD, MD
Outside of oral surgery, Dr. Madden enjoys international travel with her husband Michael, a professional pilot. She diligently follows sports especially her beloved Minnesota Vikings and Minnesota Twins. Rachel, Mike, daughter Elin, and son Aksel enjoy active outdoor lifestyle and hiking trails New Hampshire has to offer.
Dr. Madden grew up in Fargo, North Dakota. She attended Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire, and graduated with Honors with a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry. Upon graduation, she worked at General Electric Corporate Research and Development in New York as a chemist for three years, with a focused interest in synthesizing iron oxide nanoparticles used as MRI contrast agents as well as improving the efficiency of fluorescent lighting.
Thereafter, she matriculated from Harvard School of Dental Medicine in Boston, Massachusetts, earning a Doctorate of Dental Medicine (D.M.D.) in 2009. She participated in research involving gene expression in osteoclasts with Dr. Peter Hauschka at Boston Children’s Hospital during this time.
Following dental school, Dr. Madden continued her training at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with an internship and residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. During her residency she attended the University of North Carolina School of Medicine, earning a Doctorate in Medicine (M.D.) in 2011. She completed a year of general surgery as well as a four month rotation performing general anesthesia. Throughout her residency, Dr. Madden was active in research; she published multiple articles in the Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and has presented her research at annual meetings.
Dr. Madden completed her residency as Chief Resident and enjoyed all facets of oral and maxillofacial surgery such as dentoveolar, orthognathics, and cleft lip and palate repair. In particular , Dr. Madden enjoys hard tissue pathology such as cysts and tumors. She is board certified by the American Board of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and is a member of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons as well as the New Hampshire Dental Society, the New Hampshire Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, the Greater Nashua Dental Society, and the Manchester Dental Society.
